Wayne Walker (#53 LB, C) Vandal Football Bobblehead

Part of the University of Idaho Vandals Bobblehead Collection.

Remember the legendary player, Wayne Walker, while showing off your Vandal Pride for the University of Idaho football team. About Wayne Walker
Walker was a three-year starter at linebacker and center from 1954-57. As a senior, Walker was chosen to be team captain and to represent Idaho in the East-West Shrine Game and the Chicago All-Star Game. He was voted the Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Shrine Game after recording 15 tackles, two interceptions and one blocked punt.

Walker was drafted in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions, where he went on to enjoy a highly successful career at linebacker and placekicker. He was selected to the NFL All-Rookie Team and later was honored with five Pro Bowl appearances.

Walker played in 200 games for the Lions, a franchise record that was not broken until placekicker Jason Hanson played his 201st game in 2004. After retiring from professional football, Walker went on to an Emmy-award winning career as a sports broadcaster for KPIX-TV in San Francisco. He spent 11 years as a color analyst for CBS sports and retired as the color commentator for the San Francisco 49ers.

Wayne Walker passed away in 2017.
