Margaret Ritchie FCS Floor Tile Tie

This 100% silk tie innovatively integrates an architectural detail with a textile product. The unique pattern on this tie pays homage to the original, "very Vandal" floor tiles in the Mary Hall Niccolls building.

About the Artist
The tie was designed by Maddy Machen while she was a student in the Apparel, Textiles, and Design program in the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences.

"I've been blessed to have been practically living in the building for the last 5 years,” Machen said. “This has been a wonderful opportunity and I'm going to treasure this project forever."

Machen was awarded the 2021 UICALS Student Leader of the Year award while she was president of the Apparel, Textiles, and Design Club. She also enjoys volunteering with the Leila Old Historic Costume Collection.
